Curious about the value of your artwork when considering a sale?

JL Fine Art Appraisal provides an expedited valuation service.

What will I receive?

✔ A USPAP-compliant Restricted Appraisal Report prepared by a professional accredited appraiser, sent to your email in PDF format within 3-5 business days.

A Restricted Appraisal Report is a shortened version of an Appraisal Report which allows for a quicker turnaround and reduced fee. This format requires that all intended users be identified by name.

What do I need to provide?

✔ Clear, high-resolution digital photographs of the artwork, including the front, back, and close-ups of relevant details such as the artist’s signature, inscriptions, stamps, and labels. Close-up images of any condition issues are also requested.
✔ Photographs of available background documents, such as purchase invoices, condition reports, or exhibition records.
✔ Dimensions of the artwork.

What can I expect?

✔ A conclusion of Fair Market Value for the intended use of “Sale Consideration.”

Fair Market Value is defined as the hypothetical price at which a property would change hands between a willing buyer and a willing seller, neither being under any compulsion to buy or sell and both having reasonable knowledge of relevant facts. It includes the commissions paid by the buyer and seller in the context of a sale arranged by an auction house.

The valuation shall be based upon past auction sale prices of comparable works by the artist. If the artist does not have an established history of public auction sales, if no relevant comparables have been sold at this level of the market in recent years, or if the artist cannot be conclusively identified during the course of research, auction sale prices of comparable examples by artists of approximately similar origin, period, and stature may be reviewed.

What kind of items can I submit?

✔ Works of art, from Old Masters through Contemporary artists, such as paintings, watercolors and drawings, prints, photographs, and sculptures.
✔ Items for which comparable examples are commonly traded on the public auction market.

How much do I pay?

✔ The fee for a Restricted Appraisal Report is $350 per item.

If multiple similar items are submitted, such as related works by the same artist, a discounted rate may be appropriate. Please contact Julia Liberman at JL@JLFineArtAppraisal.com to discuss further.

How does the process work?

The requested photographs and information can be uploaded using the form below.

Within 1-2 business days of submission, you will receive an email with:

✔ Confirmation that this assignment can be undertaken by the appraiser.
✔ Artwork measurement guidelines.
✔ An invoice with payment instructions. Payment can be made via credit card, Venmo, PayPal, Zelle, or check.

The appraisal report will be shared following receipt of payment in full.

Why might my submission be declined?

✔ The artwork cannot be accurately identified based on the photographs and information provided.
✔ The artist has an active presence at the high end of the gallery market, but does not yet have a record of sales on the auction market.
✔ The artwork requires additional specialized research due to its rarity or significance.
✔ The type of object submitted falls outside the appraiser's area of expertise.

How many artworks can I submit?

✔ Up to three artworks can be submitted using the form below. Should you wish to submit additional artworks, please use a new form. All artworks submitted by the same client will be included in a single appraisal report, unless separate appraisal reports are requested.

Can I ask a question before submitting my artwork?

✔ Of course! Please contact Julia Liberman at JL@JLFineArtAppraisal.com.
